Hi! My name is Melanie Richardson and it is my final year at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. I am privileged to study Music Education at one of the finest Music Conservatories in the nation. My main instrument is trombone, but at this point I can play almost any instrument that is put in front of me. I strive to be involved both in the Conservatory and in the University as a whole, as well as in the surrounding community that makes UC a home.
At UC, I am involved in a number of activities, most of which correlate with my musical endeavors. Through all these musical and academic endeavors, I have had something pushing me to dive deeper, experience new things, and pursue my passions. This force is the University Honors Program. I have learned a great deal about myself, my goals as a music educator, and my outside interests through my honors experiences with the Honors Program. If you want to know more about these experiences, please look through the section entitled "Honors Experiences."
Apart from CCM, though still pursuing my passion for music, I participate in the UC Bearcat Bands. I was a trombone section leader for two years in the Bearcat Marching Band, which is one of the most rewarding opportunities of my college career. I met new students and new marchers and provided them a community and a support system through music before classes began. I am now in my final year of marching band and I have been bestowed the honor of being one of the three Drum Majors for the Marching Band. I'll tell you a lot more about this in my "UC Bearcat Bands" section.
I am a member of the UC Band's Honorary Sorority, Tau Beta Sigma - Theta Chapter. This is a long-standing and meaningful organization that allows me to give back to the UC Band through fundraising, service projects, and leadership. Tau Beta Sigma is an organization that supports me in my music education endeavors, provides networking opportunities, and provides me with a chance to show the UC Bearcat Bands how much the people and staff have done for me over my years at UC. I hope to continue my support for this timeless organization after my time at UC is complete.
I hope you learn a little bit more about me, my interests, and my goals as you peruse through my learning portfolio. There is documentation on my music education curriculum and accomplishments, my experiences in the UC Honors Program, and my involvement in the UC Bearcat Bands.
Musically,
Melanie Richardson
